A sustainable built environment entails looking beyond individual projects to understand how decisions and processes interact across multiple scales. At the micro scale, innovation occurs at the firm and project levels, the meso level connects organizations and value chains, while the macro level spans urban stocks at the city, national, and global levels.
These scales shape the direction of sustainable change: bottom-up innovation in building technologies and business models meets top-down drivers such as policies, incentives, and funding. Using data-driven and systems-based models, my research investigates these dynamics and identifies pathways for more sustainable, collaborative, and resilient construction practices.
